A Safe Place – Erbsville Dental

The “new reality” has been discussed in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. Many health professionals are suggesting that we will all eventually have to “live with” COVID-19 and future viruses. This will mean changing the way we interact with others and develop excellent personal hygiene habits to protect ourselves. There is however a safe place that has always been, not immune, but protected and secure from biological contaminates. Especially now with more focus on fomites (potential surfaces where viruses and bacteria can survive) Erbsville Dental is a safe place.

Patients and Staff Are Protected

Protecting patients and staff from biological threats has always been a priority of Dr. Stephen Mathews. Afterall, when reaching inside a person’s mouth it is the opposite of social distancing. On the first day at Erbsville Dental, Waterloo and since then, measures and standards were established and maintained to eliminate person to person transfer of micro-contagions.

Proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) has always been a requirement for all staff members including Dr. Mathews, hygienists and reception staff. The need for hand washing and new PPE has never been neglected before walking into a different exam room. Cleaning of the clinic, including disinfecting high traffic surfaces is part of a daily routine and is taken seriously. And of course, dental equipment and tools are sterilized and maintained.

Progressive Standards

Many lessons have also been learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. A “new reality” will also mean new measures will be put in place at your dentist’s office when things get back to “normal”. Exactly what changes will be made at Erbsville Dental are yet to be decided but could include:

  • Staggered appointments with time between to avoid person to person contact.
  • Less people in the waiting room at one time.
  • Change in receptions and other staff’s PPE requirements (I.E. mandatory facemasks)
  • More time spent disinfecting high touch areas of the clinic.

We will do our best to keep our patients informed as things progress. Check our blog for updates.
